Steve Morrow

Profile

Steve grew up in southern British Columbia and has been fishing from a young age.  Eventually, he moved to the British Columbia interior to pursue an education in fish and wildlife management, journalism and environmental science.  Over the last 15 seasons, he has had the pleasure of working on rivers near his home like the Harrison and Fraser, on fabled trout streams like the Chilko and even in Patagonia.  After a decade guiding on the Dean he now has the good fortune of working on the creeks of Haida Gwaii, up and down the coast of British Columbia and the Skeena region each fall with Epic Waters Angling.

Steve is an FFF certified two-handed casting instructor (THCI) and in his spare time, he can be found slacking off on the banks of his favorite steelhead river the Thompson.

Steve resides in Smithers, BC with his wife Dana.

He has been a part of Epic Waters Angling since the beginning and excited to move forward on all the future adventures!

Dave Page puts down the rod and waders to tie his favorite fly while giving us a brief bio. You know Dave from all things Babine, Frontier and of course Epic. Look for him soon chasing bows on the Columbia with a trout spey or at Lake of the Woods chasing giant Musky this summer. […]

Flying from Anchorage is pure Alaskan concentrate. It’s that kind of aerial imagery that David Attenbourgh narrates. Blankets of mountains, countless ribbons of water, and the sparkling Pacific sprawling to the west. Tarns cling to alpine and ice chokes the high country. An hour in, the mountain loosens their grip and Bristol Bays’ sweeping lowlands […]

  • Things to be Thankful for in 2020

    Steve Morrow
    December 31, 2020 (December 31, 2020)

What is there to be thankful for in this dumpster fire of a year? Not much and I’ve been dating papers 2021 for some time. I did however want a title you might read and if “Scarlett Johansson stuns with a 2 piece” is just her eating KFC, then this heading is justified. So then […]

Skeena Fishtrap – Piggybacking on the success of the Columbia Fishtrap pilot, a similar project on the Skeena will be built by Lax Kw’alaams Fisheries, the Native Fish Society and the Wild Fish Conservancy (banner picture). Using nonintrusive enclosures to corral fish for selective harvest, catch and release survival on non-target species is effectively […]

Well from COVID closed borders to cancelled flights and low returns, the 2020 fishing season has hardly been a win in northern BC. The steelheader in your life has likely sat on the sidelines waiting for the coach to put em back in. In the meantime here’s some do’s and don’ts to help get your […]

  • Culture is the most Promising Path to Preservation

    December 8, 2020 (December 22, 2020)

Even thirty years ago catch and release was not widely accepted practice. For so many the tradition of angling they grew up with ended in harvest. Tradition is stale, transfixed. Even today, jurisdictions tasked with protecting threatened stocks run up against resistance. The only acceptable options are retention or nothing at all. I’d argue so […]

  • Explaining Steelhead Water in the very simplest terms

    Steve Morrow
    October 3, 2020 (October 3, 2020)

The question is constant. “What are you looking for?” For me it’s money, health, happiness, waders that don’t leak. Oh you mean when I’m looking for steelhead water! Well this quick clip is the easiest place to begin. Simple? Yes. Too simple? Probably. Head, gut, tailout. KISS – keep it simple stupid. […]

With the disruption of the 2020 fall Steelhead season its been a challenge to keep everyone busy and active. A normal guide program leaves little time for anything else and requires full dedication to the schedule. It also gets you outside in nature where we excel. With all that in mind, we have been trying […]

So 3 anglers show up in your boat. Young, lots of Patagonia and a flat brim or two. They’re from Oregon and you know Portlands there – clear cut liberals. So you dip into your best bleeding heart material but this turns out to be a case of mistaken identity. Well camouflaged in progressive plumage […]

    August 21, 2020 (August 23, 2020)

It can seem like every year a million more spey products flood the market and muddy the waters. Reinventing the wheel is a great way to sell gear but ultimately the new technologies are meant to make your time on the water a little easier. Most commonly spey lines will fit into the following 3 […]
