EPIC Canadian Caesars!

Sure it may have been the great quest for Northern BC steelhead that drew you up initially, but we all know it’s the great taste of an EPIC Canadian Caesar that keeps you coming back for more!

A bit of History

Although we can’t take all the credit for this drink as the Bloody Mary has been around for 100 years, we did elevate a mediocre drink into a truly epic cocktail.   The Caesar originated in Calgary, Alberta in the late 1960’s (although there is some debate on that).   It was at this time that Motts Clamato company began to blow up. Even though this Clamato is is made in the US, most of the product goes to Canada to be used in Caesars according to Motts.

Although it is not official, nearly all Canadians will agree that the Caesar is our national drink. It is like comfort food for us and it simply just tastes like home.  Although surprising, all this enthusiasm pretty much stops at the United States border. The Caesar stubbornly remains a Canadian phenomenon (similar to the Tragically hip).   If we try to order one in the US we often hear “oh you want a bloody caesar?”  However we immediately know that is a rookie mistake to call it that, and thus you are about to get poured a very poor cocktail.

It is often thought that the Caesar is meant to be sipped on in the mornings.  However the truth is there is really no wrong time to drink one.  From the hair of the dog cocktail first thing in the morning, to a wonderful side addition to your lunch or dinner, this drink is suitable at all times of the day.

As elite members of the EPIC WATERS + community, we’ve decided to let you in on a national secret so that you too can enjoy the great taste of Canada from home this year!

  1. Thanks for sharing! Clamato indeed can be a little tough to find in the USA, but some of the big box stores carry it and it can also be ordered online. Thanks again!
